The case
Why this card matters.
The 1996 Flair Showcase Row 1 Kobe Bryant rookie belongs to the middle tier of Flair Showcase's three-level base set. Known as the "Grace" row, it was produced in smaller quantities than Row 2 but in greater numbers than the scarce Row 0 version. The layered row system was an unusual concept for a base set in the 1990s and allowed Fleer to introduce varying levels of scarcity without relying on serial numbering. Bryant won his first NBA championship in 2000 as part of the Lakers' three consecutive titles from 2000 through 2002. Alongside Shaquille O'Neal, he helped lead Los Angeles to one of the league's most successful championship runs of the modern era.
