The case
Why this card matters.
The 1996 Ultra Kobe Bryant #52 rookie card was issued by Fleer during a period when Ultra had become one of the company's cleaner premium basketball brands. The set used glossy stock, full-color photography, and foil name treatment, separating it from the simpler base Fleer release. Ultra also carried Gold Medallion parallels, which used gold foil stamping and a modified card number, showing how mainstream basketball products were increasingly building parallel structures into standard pack releases. Kobe Bryant won the 2007-08 NBA Most Valuable Player Award after leading the league in total points with 2,323 while playing all 82 games. The award came during a season in which he carried the Lakers back to the NBA Finals and remained one of the league's most durable high-usage players.
