The case
Why this card matters.
The 1996 Fleer Kobe Bryant #203 rookie card was issued in Fleer’s standard basketball release, separate from the company’s higher-gloss Ultra, Metal, and Flair Showcase products. The base Fleer set used a more conventional design approach, with full-player photography, bordered layouts, and accessible pack distribution. In a year crowded with experimental premium releases, the regular Fleer issue represents the company’s traditional flagship-style entry for Bryant’s rookie class. On March 16, 2007, Bryant scored 65 points against the Portland Trail Blazers, beginning a four-game stretch in which he scored 65, 50, 60, and 50 points. He became the first player since Wilt Chamberlain to score at least 50 points in four consecutive games.
