The case
Why this card matters.
The 1997 SPx Tim Duncan #37 rookie card came from Upper Deck’s SPx line, one of the company’s most technically ambitious basketball products of the decade. SPx cards used a die-cut construction, holographic foil elements, and a high-gloss finish that separated the product from standard cardboard releases. The design reflected Upper Deck’s late-1990s push toward cards that looked more engineered than traditionally printed. Duncan won his first NBA championship in 1999, just his second season in the league. He was named Finals MVP after averaging 27.4 points and 14.0 rebounds against the New York Knicks, giving the Spurs the first title in franchise history.
