The case

Why this card matters.

The 1997 Hoops Tim Duncan #166 rookie card was issued in one of basketball’s longest-running mainstream card brands. Hoops had entered the market in 1989 and was known for broad distribution, large checklists, and a more traditional collecting format than the premium products that followed. By 1997, the brand still served as an accessible entry point while documenting one of the strongest rookie classes of the decade. Duncan's 2003 Finals performance included one of the most complete closeout games in championship history. In Game 6 against New Jersey, he recorded 21 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists, and 8 blocks, coming within two blocks of a quadruple-double.
